WELCOME Hi. Thx for checking out my site. I am a pianist/musician living and making music in the areas of northern Colorado including Denver, Boulder, Loveland, and other surrounding areas. I love what I do and hope I will get the chance to share some of that with you in person. You also will find here some recordings that I hope you will find relaxing and inspirational. Gary

ABOUT

A bit about me

I was born and raised in the rural Laurention hills north of Montreal and thus fortunate to as a child be immersed in both the English and French culture. At an early age I declared to myself that I would be a pianist when I grew up. Never mind the fact that there was no teacher (though admit to some inital help from mom, thx!) and I think our old piano really did fall off the truck! I mainly learned to read and play from listening to classical recordings (why listen to the Beatles when you had Beethoven!) and immersing myself in the sounds playing very advanced music at an early age without official instruction. Later I was able to attend Tyndale College in Toronto for a degree in Sacred Music and Piano Performance and then later earn an A.R.C.T. in piano from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. There I studied with renowned Canadian pianists Helena Bowkun and Douglas Finch and later with Dr. Sophia Moshevich. I have been fortunate to tour Europe with the Jubliance choir and orchestra from Canada and play in such prestigious venues as the Glenn Gould Hall in Toronto. Besides piano I have taught workshops on songwriting and sacred music at national and international conferences. Locally I once played for the Colorado governor Bill Owens birthday party and also events at the Governors mansion in Denver. For several years I was pianist for the Woodwind group "Esprit" playing at various venues around Colorado.On other fronts I have many years of experience in church music leadership and working with choirs and music productions. I also enjoy some composing and am a published songwriter. Another joy of mine has been working with both children's choirs and treble choirs. I also have an interest in the calming and healing properties of music and you may wish to check out my Sacred Spaces recording.While more formally trained as a classical musician I also enjoy playing music in other styles as well as by ear. I am also fortunate to own a very nice guitar which I have always found easier to cart around than my piano! (Though I am kind of partial to my 1924 Steinway piano).While still a Canadian citizen I reside in the beautiful Front Range of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. I live in Loveland but am also in Boulder, Denver and surrounding areas frequently. I consider myself very fortunate in life and am thankful for so many who have encouraged me and even listened along the journey. I would consider it an honor if I can bring some music into your life in some way.

I offer a specialitzed teaching approach for adults. I recognize that adults have very different motivations and learning styles from children . I will customize it to your goals. Do you wish to learn to play by ear and chords or lean more towards reading music. Don't you just want to have fun?Did you take lessons as a child but gave it up? Maybe you didn't really love it or perhaps you had a teacher who was less than inspirational. Was practicing was more a chore than a source of enjoyment?Perhaps now as an adult you regret giving it up and would like to give it a fresh start. Maybe you always wanted to play and now you wish to give it a try. Maybe you already play and want to take it to the next level.Piano SocialsAnd no pressure and no scary recitals! Instead we have piano socials where we gather together perhaps at my or perhaps some else's home and share some light refreshments. As you like you can play for the group anything you choose. And as a bonus you meet other adults in your neighborhood! You know we're all in this together!

Events

Want to add a touch of class to an event? I can play popular music or lighter classical to provide just the right mood. For weddings I offer consultation as to selections, will attend the rehearsal and if needed accompany any soloists or other instruments. I can also of course play for the reception.For events I enjoy bringing just the right ambience to the occasion. I have been fortunate to play at some very nice venues but am equally happy sharing music with anyone in many different settings. I do also enjoy contributing my services to worthy fundraisers.

La Vie en Piano (Life in Piano) is a collection of lighter and relaxing classical piano solos. Some of them are very popular and some are pretty obscure but I think as whole they work together well. Most of them are meaningful to me in some way so it is also may be considered somewhat autobiographical, hence the title.

WHAT TO EXPECT
I will do my very best to give you my best. If you are taking lessons I am confident you will make good progress if you do your part as well. Lessons will be casual and non-threatening and you can be assured that I a very patient person.For a first piano lesson please bring what ever resources you may currently have. We will also discuss your goals and reasons for wanting to take piano lessons.For events I will conduct myself in a very professional manner and strive to meet your needs as closely as possible.

What to expect

RATES

Piano SessionsI offer two different rates and payment plans.The recommended approach for the best success is to take weekly thirty minute lessons. The cost per session is 25.00 and payable in advance on the first lesson of the month.The second option is to take bi-weekly lessons. I do recognize that people have very busy lives and this might be more conducive to your lifestyle or budget. The cost per session then is 30.00. You will pay for two sessions in advance on the first lesson of the month.Cancellation policyAs this is my business I view the fees as charges for my time. If more than a 24 hour notification is given I will try and reschedule a make-up. If less than 24 hrs notice is given the lesson will be forfeited and no make-up given. The only valid reason for cancelling is true emergencies and extreme weather. Thank you for understanding.EventsI charge a very reasonable and competitive rate. My fees are 75.00 per hour with an additional 60.00 fee for set-up and tear down. Actual playing time will be 50 minutes per hour allowing for a 10 minute break. There will also be a reasonable fee if my travel time is more than 45 minutes each way.. Weddings vary depending on such factors as location, time involved, need to rehearse with your soloist or other musicians, play for the reception etc. There will also of course be personal consulation time.Payment for events and weddings are due 48 hours before the event.
